Organized firefighting began in Gray, Maine during the 1880's. Gray Rescue was formed in 1969. Gray Fire-Rescue (GFR) is a combination department providing twenty-four hour fire and medical emergency services to the Town of Gray (pop. 7,250). Gray now shares a fire station with the Town of Raymond, together we protect over 90 square miles with a full-time population of 12,000 and a seasonal population of nearly 40,000 vistors and residents.
Gray Fire-Rescue Department is a progressive combination Fire EMS Department, as our staff is comprised of members who are career, part-time, and paid on call. We operate out of 4 Stations with a fleet of 5 Engines, 1 Tower Ladder, 1 Tanker, 1 Heavy Rescue, 2 Forestry Units, 5 Support Vehicles and 3 Rescue Ambulances.
